xs 400 won't start.

Hello, I am new to this type of thing. What I a dealing with is a 1980 xs 400. It has no spark. I have checked all wires. I have done ohm tests on everything I could get special someone for and all is good. I was wondering if this bike needs a battery for it to start. Going nuts right now. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

I haven't played with one in a while but I am sure it needs a battery to start

Yes a good charged battery is needed.

If you want to run without a battery you have to swap a permanent magnet into the alternator; there's a thread here with a guide.
