I am looking for pics and info for frame modification
what I would like to do is remove the triple backbone and replace with a single
for more tank options
but I do not want to do a hardtail
maybe someone out there has some insight?
thanks

I figure the technique is similar; chop off what you don't want and weld some beefy tube in place.

I know you want to keep the rear end. Unfortunately I don't know of anyone that has done exactly what you're trying to do; you may be the first. Every time I have seen a triple backbone chopped off it has been so that a hardtail can be grafted on.

Check out my build thread. http://www.xs400.com/forum/showthread.php?t=13883

This was my first version using the stock rear tubes if you don't want to redo the rear. I didn't like it so later changed the rear tubes.

This is what I ended up with. Don't mind the braces, just tacked them to keep everything square.

yes
this helps a lot
just the idea I was thinking of
anymore pics would be helpful?
pics of changes?
thanks man
it is so exactly what I was thinking

The last 4 pictures are the changed rear tubes. I tied them into the tubes running down to the engine rather than the backbone.

I'll see if I have any more.
