Help...can't get kickstarter to engage.

Any help would be awesome. I'm at my witts end. I can get the kickstart to turn over the engine or even move. Any wisdom? I took the case off and took apart the kick start assembly. It looks fine. I took out the plugs and shifted it up to 5th gear and pushed it with the plugs out. The engine turns over and has compression.

You need to make sure it's oriented properly before you install it, some info here about the one on my '81.

you havn't got the clutch in have you?

you need the clutch to transmit the gearbox movement back to the cylinders! neutral starts only with kicker

That has gotten me a few times, especially when you go a while without using the/a bike like that.
