just need to replace some little stuff. and wanted to know if the left and right hand controls would work if the came of a xs650?

use the original bodies and swap stuff over, RD and SR stuff will work too (but not all, Caveat emptor applies)

If you're talking about physically fit, and not worried about exact plug-in wiring, it shouldn't be any problem, both 7/8" handle bars. I would probably look for one '79 to '81, those switches I believe use the handlebars to ground to the left control for the starter. You can probably double check this in the wiring diagram in the manual you downloaded from the site.
