Thanks to Drewpy for his response yesterday.
As I mentioned I have 2 bikes to choose from. I'm going to extend the swing arm or go the welded hardtail route. I'm not sure which. Is one cheaper/easier for a beginner than the other. Is one of the bikes better than the other for this kind of modification? Drewpy has suggested the 1980 xs400 Special. There has also been talk of changing the top frame from ?3 to 1 pipe? I lack any welding skills and would be sending this work out to the professionals. I thought I read something about the rake being different on the Specials? Do the engines and engine parts on these 2 bikes switch from bike to bike with no mods?
