i saw mikesxs.net has a real simple "chopper" wiring harness for the 650. they have a 6 pin and 8 pin. would either of these work for the 400?....probably a dumb question...
 
If your really going to go though the trouble of chopping it, do your own wiring, ie Drewpy posted a excellent guide, that is on the front page, and the tech section. That way, you only wire up what you need. or add extra as necessary.

of course if i didnt want to make it, my bike (listed below, part number is 4R4-82590-51-00 WIRE HARNESS ASSEMBLY) (Obsolete)

Google 82590-51, I think you will find hints for where to find it. 4R4 is specific for my model, so a 2L0 might be an older wire harness. If I was going to consider otherwise, get the new connectors from Mikesxs, and heat shrink tubes, and go for it. or what I am going to do, (it aint broke, so I am good)
