i know the charging system on these bikes isnt the greatest..but has anyone thought about or tried to install one of those aftermarket clamp on radio/amp/speaker/ipod input things ? if so..was it a battery killer

so i bought a 1979 xs400 thats been "messed" with already, the PO put on a 2 into 1 exhaust and told me he had jetted it, it was running so rich that the plugs fouled black within 50 miles and it would not start on choke and bogged down at around 5k rpms, just for the heck of it i put on pod air...

so i rewired my stator and im now getting around 14.4v to the battery at around 3k revs..i bought a new battery too and charged it overnight, started awesome this morning so i took it for a quick 12 mile spin...when i get home i got a dead battery, i dont get it..any ideas ?

i know you guys are probably TIRED of these charging questions.. but ! if i get .9 ohms across all the 3 white wires at the connector am i safe to assume the stator wiring is ok ?

figured id say hello, im in ct.. originally from manchester uk..just learning to ride and i picked this up yesterday, looking likr it has the regular bad charging issues from what im reading on here..but im looking forward to tinkering with it
