Trying to mount a custom single speedo on my 83 maxim 400, but the speedo cable wont clear the headlight bezel or key switch. Was thinking of getting a 90 degree cable adapter, which looks expensive according to ebay... wondering if anyone has ever gone this route? Looking for any tips or ideas...

Anyone ever hardtailed an 83 maxim XS400? Been cruising this forum for pictures of a hardtailed maxim but can't seem to find one. I know its possible and probably pretty easy, any advice or pictures of previous projects?

Here are the colours I am thinking on, a darker red, few shades darker than maroon, then a cream coloured two tone, tanish in colour. Haven't seen many re painted stock maxims so I'm just brainstorming. Any ideas or thoughts? Criticism or support regarding the paint scheme?

What size jets do I need for my stock makuni carbs? Just purchased the MAC 2-1 exhaust and would like to know what you guys would use, what size jet and where I can get them? Probably missed a sticky thread for this, so if someone can redirect me or help that would be great!:laugh:

Missing air screw spring on the right hand (battery side carb) air/fuel adjustment screw. Doesn't seem right. Took them apart to maintenance and saw this.both sides should have a spring right? This is the adjustment screw directly above the air intake throat. Should the 2 screws both have springs ?

Hey there, just got a 400 maxim a few days ago. I got it running, the battery was dead, only putting out 10 volts. I'd try to turn it over, and something made a clicking noise? (A box behind the battery), some sort of voltage regulator? Anyways...plugged it into a charger and put it on 12V jump...
