1982 right lower fork tube cracked up at the top and oil spooged out. This spot had been poorly repaired with a braze and some epoxy before I purchased it. Now with new seals it's leaking bad.

I know that all of the following use the same fork lower (the aluminum half):
1982 xs400j
1982 xs400rj
1983 xs400k
1983 xs400rk

But I am having trouble finding one. Any tips on where to look or what other models may work without having to by a new front wheel. Even what complete front end may work. Any thoughts on this would be a huge help

Thanks,
Jon

XJ550 Seca, not Maxim, are 35mm forks, which I believe is the same on your bike. Here's a few eBay links:

Yamaha Visions have the same fork tube size and maybe same axle. But wheel position is different.

Things to check out for compatibility, axle size and brake caliper position and mounting.

Thanks man, that looks great and is really affordable. Looking at these and at the microphiche, I notice mine is a bit different. The lower tube on the right of mine does not have an axle clamp. Am I identifying the model correctly?

Here is a pic of the offending fork tube

Here is my neck for model ID

I really appreciate ya'lls help. Every thing other than the axle clamp looks right on the 550, but the microphiche show a much different looking caliper and bracket.

There were 2 different 550's the Seca (RH) and the Maxim (H), they used different forks and brake setups. If I was going to take a chance, I would go with this eBay offering, http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/82-x...s&hash=item3a5fb834a9&clk_rvr_id=249693676598
I would ask the lister to measure axle hole sizes, the distance between the mounting holes for the brake, and anything else you might think think would help you make a decision.
