Maybe just the chains come from Japan; they're advertised as such. I've been running bikemaster tubes on two different old bikes for many thousands of miles and I've never had a problem.
When there is a hole in the tube right after installation it is almost always due to pinching the tube with the spoons. If you pinch any tube it's going to fail Chinese or not.
