All 4 turn signals flash no matter which direction I signal

I purchased a new flasher and some led turn signals and jerry rigged them into the stock housings. When I try to signal it always signals with all 4 instead of the 2 on their respective sides. How am I supposed to fix this? I read that you can fix it using diodes but have no clue how to wire it up. The indicator light in the cluster also doesn't light up now.

So I take the left and right turn signal wires, wire them to the diodes then wire the wire coming from the diodes to where the left turn signal was going to, and just make a ground coming off where the right turn signal wire would have been?

(Sorry if that makes sense I'm tired as right now)
