NEW TO XS400
So I started off my build with a 1979 xs 400f the bike ran when I got it. It needed some heavy attention to the poor attempt at making it a bobber...the previous owners had cut off the back end of th seat and welded two small rods together and bent the rod and attached a bicycle seat with the from piece cut off....
I immediately cut the complete rear seat and fender mount they had and had a friend of min help bend some same size tubing and welD it in. I rode the bike after making some quick bandaid repairs to wires I could see that needed to be soldered together instead of just twisted Nd electrical taped....
By the end of the season I kept blowing lights and had a leak in the gas tank, and hasn't a constant blue flame coming out of the right exhaust ...
I was just going to fix the wiring and every time I looked deeper at things...there were more issues to be found...such as a broken oil bolt that someone jus welled a nut onto and put it back in.......many broken/ cut wires with new wires spliced in.... I expected a 35 year old bike son none of this really shocked me....what I did learn is if there are problems you can visually see without removing things....I should have done the more thorough assessment prior to putting my life on the bike!
To come back to the blue flame ..I looked like Nicolas cage riding down the road with the flame coming out the exhaust in the movie "Ghost Rider"...but only half as cool!
I have almost completed the wiring and I have finished painting all the parts including the frame. Made a new seat for the bike and I think I will have a pretty nice looking ride for the upcoming season!
