Inline fuel shutoff

My petcock is leaking on my 78. For a quick fix, could I just put an inline fuel shutoff on and leave it on prime while running? Or even leave it on the on position.
 
Yes you can do that. Just don't forget to turn it off in case a float sticks open.

Edit: As long as the petcock opens fully when the engine is running then it doesn't matter if it's ON or PRIME but i'd leave it on prime myself.
