Did you ever get the h4 headlight done? I had an issue getting a light for my 1977 dt400 I used a Harley Davidson 5-3/4" light it was the same depth as the sealed beam that came on the bike. Now I have a 55w and 65w headlight. Awesome upgrade. $10 on ebay I think.

Running open exhaust will cause excessive scavenging of the exhaust gases causing the exhaust valves to operate at a higher than normal temperature eventually burning them. Which is really them just wrapping.
this is a generic wiring diagram. it covers everything you need for your bike to run.
on a bike with a starter your ignition is a little different more wire for the starter function.
if you want to keep it simple run a push button wired to solenoid, tap into the wiring around the ignition on...
wish i would have saw this earlier, i have a bike i am going to build as a ?????????? but i am not going to use any of the OEM parts and it has a battery box. not many piece most everything was in a box when i picked it up.

i had the same problem with my DT400 and the light also cut out, on the DT the lighting and charging coil are on top of each other. so re-wrapping was easy. converted it from 6v to 12v with a re-wrap.

i have not done this to a maxim but i had a vt700 shadow that i bobbed and i removed the center stand and everything before removing the exhaust in one piece, only to cut it later. not sure if your exhaust is similar but i dont think it could be to different.
look for kroll-oil. i would let it set over night but this stuff will penetrate a ducks butt. lol. i use it all the time when working on aircraft exhaust, and rusty bolts on sea planes.
a little oil is not going to fowl your plugs. excessive oil will. if it looks like a bug spraying truck your going to need to fix it. and you can fix vavle seals without removing the head. use a compression tester hooked to a air supply good pressure, i always use 150psi. this will hold the...
