Needed: Rotor Puller (Portland, Oregon, USA)

6 weeks ago I found the rotor puller online for $2.42. I paid for it, plus shipping, and have been checking the order status on their website ever since. The website appears to just keep incrementing the expected delivery date by one... :wtf: So far, they won't respond to...

What are these bikes really worth...

Alright, I saw this on Craigslist locally and am thinking it's priced too high: http://portland.craigslist.org/mlt/mcy/4717979394.html :wtf: Am I right? Or should I consider putting up my bike for sale too?

    Starter clutch modification

Guys...I'm not mechanical enough to attempt this, but check out what's been done on another Yamaha that used a similar 3 ball starter clutch: http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=908967 This guy modified a more modern sprag clutch, and then drilled and tapped the rotor so it...

    Exhaust baffle repair ideas needed

I'm stumped... The previous owner put a 2 into 1 header on the bike, welded on some aftermarket muffler, and then punched out the baffle inside the muffler. I'd like to quiet the bike down a bit, but don't see an easy way to do it. There isn't any way to remove what's left of the baffle...

For Sale - 1980 XS 400 SG - $950 or best offer - Portland, Oregon

My son and I picked this up in Cheyenne back in 2009. It wasn't running at the time and was mostly in boxes. I got it in the hopes he'd take to wrenching on engines and learn to ride. Unfortunately, he's got little to no interest (prefers computers). He's off to college next month and I'd...

    Home powder coating

I was just given about 100 pounds of black powder coat -- free! Now I've got to figure out how to use it. All I've got for equipment at this point is an old toaster oven. Do any of you powder coat in your garages? What do you use for a gun? What other tools/equipment will I need?

Can a rich mixture cause backfires thru the carb

I'm still fighting an occasional backfire through my left carb, usually as I ease the throttle up to about 1800rpm. I know a lean mixture can cause a backfire, but I've checked everything for air leaks and it all seems sealed up tight. I've got my mix screws out about 4 turns, which I would...

Why does a lean mixture cause rapid idle

I would have thought a rich mixture would mean too much gas in the system, which would cause the idle too speed up or not settle down. But it seems to be the opposite. I'm curious why. Why does a lean mixture cause the idle to speed up or to not settle down after blipping the throttle? Can...

    Ignition switch bracket bolts

Apparently the bolts that hold up the ignition switch fell out during my last ride. When I stopped after a 30 mile ride, the ignition switch had wiggled its way down in between the front forks, behind the headlight. Does anybody know what size bolts these are so? I'd love to hit the...

    Run away throttle - '80SG

I think I'm having a carb issue, but need some input. Here's what I've got... On a cold bike, I pull out the choke all the way. One kick and it fires right up. A little warming and I drop it down to half choke. Then a little later i can put the choke all the way in. The bike is now...

    Gas tank lock

The previous owner lost the key to the gas tank and instead of getting a new key, he buggered it all up by using a screwdriver to open it. Now, even if I get a key made, I'm not so sure it will work. Is there an easy way to pop the cylinder out of the lid and remove the pins so that any key...

Front Master Cylinder: Dust seal vs Snap ring

I just reassembled my master cylinder tonight, but I'm finding different things in different sources. I could use a little help here. The manual I was using described disassembling the piston from the master cylinder as removing the snap ring and then removing the dust seal. However, most...

    Front caliper rebuild question

I just bought a rebuild kit for my front caliper. Everything looks right, except the seal between the caliper and piston doesn't have the little ridge that rides in the caliper housing. The replacement looks more like a squared off o-ring whereas the original had that extra line molded around...

    Blinkers don't blink

Anyone know why my blinkers don't blink? My rears will light up when I hit the switch, but they don't blink. The fronts won't even light up. I checked voltage at the front, and I'm getting about 9 volts. Is that too little to make them light? I'm wondering if I have dirty wire...
