84 XS front disc brake dragging

The new (Ebay) non-original master cylinder arrived a couple of days ago and we installed it today. It went surprisingly well and using the old fashioned bleeding method of squeezing the air out it only took about 15 mins. to get the air out and that included flushing the system with a full can...

    XJ750 Added to the stable

Previous owner paid to have the carbs done recently but as you can see from the pics there was gas leaking from the outside carb on the left side. I had a good look at things before pulling the carbs because the bike starts and runs really well. I discovered that the float bowl screws on this...

    Where is my flasher unit?

Thanks guys. I kind of thought it was up in the frame. Now to decide if it's worth the hassle or just continue with hand signals. Sandy

    Where is my flasher unit?

I bought a couple of generic signals for the rear of my Maxim DOHC. They are not LED but a lower wattage incandescent bulb and don't provide enough load to cycle my flasher unit. I need to get at my flasher unit to replace it with a different type but I can't find it. I can hear the initial...

need help with front brake reservoir

I don't want to be the bearer of bad news but I just went through the same thing. With the screw heads facing up and the weather they are exposed to around here there wasn't much left to work with. I ended up attempting to drill them out. I managed to drill about 1/2 an inch dead center into one...

    XJ750 Added to the stable

The more I look at this the more surprised I am at how good it actually is. The pipes look bad but are good and solid. I thought of wrapping them but I decided that in our wet climate I'll be happier if I clean them up and paint them black. This is by far the cheapest bike I ever bought but it...

    XJ750 Added to the stable

Well after buying my 84 Maxim 400 a couple of weeks ago I've now ended up with an 81 Seca 750. This was not part of the plan but stuff happens. Saw it on Craigslist only a 10 min drive away and the price was so low I thought it was a misprint. Ended up first guy on the scene and couldn't pass it...

    84 Maxim body panels

Took a trip to the semi-local used parts emporium today. Lots of cool stuff but no luck on the side panels. I'm going to take another look at trying to make up something myself. Sandy

    84 Maxim body panels

I'm missing the panel on both sides that goes from the back of the tank to the front of the rear fender. Has anyone fabricated panels to fill this area? Any pictures or possible solutions appreciated. I've had no luck finding any original parts used or new. thanks, Sandy

    Single or dual filaments?

A light which is a signal only is single filament. Sandy

What did you do with your XS today?

About 60 degrees F here today with the sun shining. Fixed up my mirrors and rode my bike to do some errands. First real ride with this bike. Spent the last week or so doing carbs etc. etc. etc. Just great. Sandy

    DOHC carbs removal UGH!

I'll second the "if it ain't broke don't fix it". I've got lots of other things to do with it without trying to make extra work. Sandy

    DOHC carbs removal UGH!

Still running on the stock filter set up. I've decided to leave the filters alone for now until I figure out where I am with the rest of it. As per a separate thread I installed an inline filter today. Not real happy with the setup. It really should be a filter with the inlet and outlet at 90...

    DOHC fuel filter

Thanks for the reply. I guess I'm going to have to find a smaller filter. The one I have is quite a bit longer than yours. The only small one I have is rated for a max 15 hp application. Sandy

    DOHC fuel filter

I'm installing an inline fuel filter but the fuel line from the petcock to the carbs is very short and will kink if I install the filter as-is. I can make the fuel line longer but I'm concerned that having such a long loop which will drop below the float bowl levels may cause a problem with fuel...

    DOHC carbs removal UGH!

After reading all sorts of stuff about pod filters I'm still undecided about making the change. I would be interested if any of you DOHC guys could tell me if you would do the change again if you are now running pods. thanks, Sandy

    Cold weather riders

I'll second the tip about the newspaper. I don't get cold easily but I have a real tough time warming up once I am cold. The newspaper makes a big difference. Sandy
