Cdn bobber build.

Just a quick update. Got my forward controls finished. Just waiting to get my new frame so I can start mock up. Got my dohc carbs setup for installation on the sohc. Thanx drewpy for all your help. I just have to get a fuel line for between the carbs figured and purchase the larger jets. Will post pics in a bit. I also picked up a sweet fuel filter sight glass. It's used on 1920-30's fords. Pretty excited about that find.

Can't wait to see it! Fellow Canadian doing a project on an '84 DOHC, getting my engine to paint soon and then gonna start adding parts

Yeah am going old school. Gonna be a low ride with drag bars. Found an old lawnmower gas tank I am gonna use as an electrical box. Am trying to figure out if I can put my switches some place other than the handle bars here in Alberta.

No building progress today. Figured out what color I am going to go with. Will be trimming up a front fender off a parts bike to use for the rear fender. Come sat will be stripping current frame. It's been really cold here so that limits progress as I am building this bike in my apartment and the back of my truck under a canopy. :)

Just a few pics. Am painting forward controls black. Not sure if I will paint the filter top or leave it as I found it.

That's a heavy-duty fuel filter, dang. I'd paint it if it were me but if you're shooting for that kind of patina'd look, well.

Yeah it's a reuseable one. It's works as a sediment separator. Am gonna use screen as well. Been to cold lately, am tearing my sohc down tomorrow. I will measure that for you and let ya know.

Yeah I am taking my engine to my buddies shop for really good cleaning and paint. Also have to remove broken exhaust bolt from the head. Hopefully no problems there. If not I will just take it to my old work and get the wiz to get it out.

And they are finished. Dohc carbs should be a nice advantage.

I am pretty sure you have to use the same needle jets and needles. Also all other jets from the sohc carbs to get it running right. The dohc carbs are metered different than the sohc bikes. The carbs are the same as the 80-82 sohc bikes other than the jetting and how the bowls are mounted.

I am swapping out carbs mainly cause the dohc only has 15000 kms on the dial and mine is pushing 45000. Might as well use the younger ones. Drewpy can u advise on what xschris is talking about?

Yeah one of the carb had some damage. There is a needle above the butterflies. Previous owner must of not had the right screw driver and the head is gone off it.

Not much progress lately. Just waiting for a friend to cut me out some rear stays on the plasma table. Will be picking up some seamless dom tubing in the new yr. Have not decided whether or not to make a single back bone or not. What's your guys opinions on it? Also I am thinking I don't want to stretch it. Has anybody ever put a hardtail on without changing the wheelbase? I want it to be lowered but try not to affect the factory geometry to much. Thanx in advance.

Picked up my break light. Am adding a little touch of paint to it to make it work with the bike. Will have it all finished in a couple of days and will post a picture. Got a start on my seat. Am going with 2 springs and a hand tooled leather. It will be my first attempt but have been making knife sheaths for a while so shouldn't be to difficult.

Got a new job at a shop that specializes in custom aluminum tig welding, and some steel. This is good cause now I won't have to source it out. Now the fun begins.
