Prepping for a 1000 mile trip soon and all is well but I started getting this intermittent squeal from the cam cover yesterday on a ~100 mile shakedown trip.

Thinking about it now that I'm away from the bike, it might be the tach gear. Has anyone seen this? If it's the cam I'm going to swap in another engine. If it's the tach gear is it safe to forget it? Maybe disconnect the tach?

Many thanks,

If its the tach, I wouldnt worry about it. Tach may break though so Id probably disconnect it at the back of the gauge and deal with it later. I dont think the cam would produce a squeal, maybe the starter is sticking? Could be suspension, could be your seat. What else makes a squeal? lol

I had a tach noise last year, it sounded more like a buzz though, kinda like an engraving tool. I left it and it eventually went away. Reach your head down when the noise happens, if its inside the engine, Id pull the valve cover. Its not hard at all and can be done in about an hour.
