I just ended up buying a puller for the big, funny-shaped dealio on the crankshaft (outside of the crankcase). Splitting that mitch in the next week or two hopefully!

1. Prep'd the crankcase for painting tomorrow - used a josco abrasive nylon drill brush.
2. Stripped the old hard gasket off the 400cc jugs.
3. Realised that my copper cylinder base gasket needs a little trimming and marked it for finishing tomorrow.
4. Prep'd the bottom triple tree for paint tomorrow.
5. Weighed my old & new sprockets and glad to say that the new one is 200g lighter!
6. Removed & cleaned the rocker arms.

Too cold to ride my brand new (to me) xs400 today so I joined this site hoping to get some help. I have wasted over an hour searching this entire site for an icon or any instructions on how to do a new posting.
Nothing that I can find. What am I missing? I am ready to give up and try somewhere else.

Thanks.

I finally took some pictures of mine! It was a pain in my ass though. My camera's sd card doesn't fit my computer, so, I had to get my old camera which doesn't hold a charge and plug it into an extension cord to get them.
I'm going for a ride this afternoon.

Pulled the front end apart and started polishing stuff. Font end has lots of nice goodies that can be blinged out with a good polish. Me likey very much:) Did the caliper mount, next is caliper/triple/lower triple/fork legs/switch blocks/and whatever else will shine. I find polished metal just mesmerizing

Good start! I'm a huge fan of header wrap on bike and did it myself. I ordered pilot jets which is exciting for me! Been running pods and 2-1 straightish exhaust on 2 steps up mains and stock pilots last year. Hoping for better throttle response now!

Drilled and tapped a threaded 8/32 screw hole where the shift lever and shift rod meet to prevent the slippage when I down shift. If you don't know what I mean you will soon. These lever are made of lead I sweartahgawd!

Turned out awesome!

Been doing welding to the frame here and there. Made the spring perches for the seat and got them level and welded in. Realized my fender bracket was crooked, said shit, then cut off and re welded. Got my backbone fully welded in. After my Speedy Metals order gets in I'm going to reinforce my lower frame splice and put the kick stand back in. Next I think it's time to work on the intake and maybe make a hot stand to run the engine and tune it before I drop in in the bike.

This thread can't be on the second page! that means no one did anyhign with their XS400 today!

I got my helmet and took her for my first real ride one a motorcycle ever. I new i liked riding but now i love it.

well the weather got better today so took the tracker out for a spin.

ran like shit at first as its not run for a while.

after a few miles it settled down and i managed to get 95 mph out of her. Mind you with off road bars don't arf pull the neck.

Installed my brand new battery hoping it was the fixto my electrical problems and took it for a ride around the block. Wow did that feel good, first time this year. But unfortunately I was still experiencing a draining battery.

Took my billionth stab at checking it and decided to physically check out the alternator and lo and behold! Is this fixable? Can I remove the sheathing for repairing the short wire?
