Got it Running for the first time since 1984!!! Sort of! She will start after a few kicks with the throttle fully open and will stay on for a few seconds but if I move the throttle she dies. One exhaust is wet and black the other dry and less black. I'm guessing the carbs need setting up...

The crank case and rocker cover are the same space since the timing chain runs right through from crank to cam. Could be either of the two major gaskets or even the piston rings at fault if it is due to over pressurisation.

More engine building antics today. Bolts let it down a bit but that's the only ones I have for now. Will splash out on stainless ones some day. On to the head and barrels next. :)

Been busy rebuilding the engine on mine. Finally go the two halves of the case cleaned and painted....took a while as they were thick with corrosion. Stripped, checked and rebuilt the crank yesterday.....had to replace one of my pistons as it was damaged....I presume from someone poking about...

I would clean that caliper piston up a bit....looks pitted close to the seal area. That earth wire looks like the earth from the rear lights.

Started stripping the two 250 engines down for a complete rebuild. Only one bolt snapped, managed to drill and tap it so no drama. Not so happy with the condition of the crank bearings. quite a few marks on them.....advice much appreciated on that. I haven't spit the second engines crankcase...

Hmm more bad news....my pal had my compression tester so I didn't do it before I put the 400 engine in the frame.....did it today and found 150 on right cyl.....75 on left. Bugger. :( Away to work for 3 weeks so have plenty of time to ponder next move......think I will rebuild my 250 engine...

Changed my stator and field coil for better ones. Changed the fork oil but think I will have to go a bit thicker....fork travel still a bit gash. Broke my brake lever trying to straighten it. :(

Bled the brakes....back one is still crap....something else to Investigate. Made up a bracket for the speed sensor. Hate this part of a build...everything is fiddly and a pain in the arse.

OK now really confused. Why are some diagrams showing one side of the field coil going to ground and others showing it going to Brown live? My loom was wired from the factory with it going to ground yet it tests as 4.6 ohms (which I believe is correct) and gives 12v to ground.
