    Exhaust connection

    My 1979 XS 400, took the exhaust system off, disconnected the mufflers from the headers...The header pipe has what looks like a copper flange or bushing of some sort squeezed on the header pipe where it connects to the muffler. Does this thing come off? I noticed the header pipe inside this...

    Heidenau tires

    In Europe I know that Heidenau makes a 16" 120/90/16 road tire, the K65 but doesn't import that size to the U.S. I wrote to the U.S.Distributer about getting a tire in the U.S. but got no response:banghead:. Any one out there tried to get the same tire? Spad

    I have found Metzler ME77Rears...120/90/16 on the UK E-Bay site and the U.S. E-bay site..They are kind of spendy:yikes: with the shipping...Just thought I would pass it on. Something other then the Kendas and IRC tires for the rear XS400 with 16" wheels....Spad

    120/90/16 conumdrum

    My XS400 has a rear rim that says 2.15", yet all the tire companies say the 120/90/16 tire should be fitted to a 2.5" wide rim at a minimum. Was the original tire mounted on the 16" XS400 specially designed for the smaller rim or what? Am I missing something here as the pickens for a rear...

    Carb jet conundrum

    Tearing apart the carbs on my XS400 the jet sizes are: Main jet: 155 Jet, main: 135 According to all the replacement part catalogs the jetting should be: Main jet: 160 Jet,main: 135 The bike was sold to me as a 1980, engine code 3F8(1980), but registered as a 1981... Any thoughts on...

    18" spoke rear wheel

    My 1981 XS400 has a 16" spoke rear wheel with drum brakes, I would like to convert to an 18" rear spoke wheel with drum brakes. Is there a stock 18" Yamaha spoke wheel with drum brakes that was on some other model? I am starting my Café project...:bike:Thanks, Spad

    XS400 Special

    There is a 1980 XS400 Special 400 for sale near here.This model has drum brakes fore and aft, with wire wheels. My research shows this was bottom of the line,no disc brakes or modular wheels. What is the consensus of making this a café bike? I believe the frame is the same as the other 400...
