My 1977 xs360 Build, may take a while, but its a start..

You can get LED striplights in bulk on eBay for not very much money, seems like they'd be ideal for this.

This what I was thinking also. Just ordered some on ebay and should be here from hongkong in about 1-2 weeks.

Now to finish up all the little things that take forever!

I really like this build thread. I've read it through twice now. I hope you are flattered by imitation because I might copy a few things that you have done. Unless that is bad etiquette? Along those lines, what kind of paint did you use on the engine? Color? Any other details that would be helpful for a beginner...:)
Also, glad to know that I am not the only one who thinks a rustic stock tank looks good on a otherwise repainted bike.

Of course I don't mind someone using the same ideas that I have. I have gotten many ideas from other bikes, so know where you are coming from.

The paint on the engine is dupli-color cast iron.

Thanks again!

Got some more stuff done. The PMA is installed with the timing marks on the "new" flywheel. Got 90% of the wiring done. The tires are mounted with new tubes and put the rear on just to see what it will look like. The front left fork got disassembled to get the "stand-off" welded on for the drum brake. It was a lot easier then I thought. I just heated up the lower part pretty good and was able to unscrew by hand.

Here are some pictures of the progress.

The fork lower removed...

New tires!

Like the wheels/tires. I've always thought that look is so sharp with the spokes contrasting against the black.

Hey Norman, how's the clearance with the Shinko 110/90 rear tire?
I'll need new rubber for my 360 soon and looked at buying the exactly same tires you have.

Mostly worried about the chain guard clearance. It's a bit wonky after the PO broke the rear support off. I'm having it welded back on but I don't think it'll ever be quite the same.

Was temped by a set of stock-sized Dunlop K82s, 3.00 in the front and 3.5 in the back.
Nice vintage look but the Shinko's would be at least $100 less for the pair.

On the rear it is a close fit between the chain guard and the rear drum brake brace. I can't tell you if it will hit yet or not as I don't have everything buttoned up yet. I will try to take some pictures when I get to that point.

I went with the shinkos off the reviews, price and profile. Some of the "stock" looking ones are too squared off for me. I want to be able to swing this thing side to side pretty easy since it is so light.

Cool. I think I'll go ahead and order the Shinkos unless the local shop can beat the online price. I'll have to tweak the chain guard to fit either way.

Good point about the profile. I read that the K82s have a more triangular profile, designed for leaning into turns.
Shipping from the uk brings them to more than twice the price of the Shinkos.
Maybe in a few years.

Last night I was able to almost get the speedo all wired up. Just lacking a clear green led to go into the center one for the neutral light. I am fairly happy with the way it turned out. I put some flexible LEDs off ebay around the top to light it all up. This is a picture with them light up in the dark. They are quite bright, almost thinking of putting a potentiometer on the lights so I can control the brightness.

The cell phone camera doesn't help, but went to Radio shack today and got me a potentiometer to be able to control that.

Hoping maybe this weekend to get it all closed back up.

Finally got my buddy to weld on the stand off for holding the front brake hub. Here are a few pictures from today. Hopefully get it back together later this week.

My buddy would shoot me if he knew I posted a picture of this weld. But everything will hold and can be smoothed out.

I wouldn't worry about the weld, that can be easily hidden. I need to get some fender mounts welded onto my USD fork lowers. Will probably look the same :)
